RUGBY READY (Mininum Standard to Coach Rugby)

The ‘Are You Ready To Play Rugby?' safety policies, introduced in August 2009, have led to the creation of two new, free courses, with an emphasis on safety and good practice.

Both courses are aimed at anyone involved in school or club rugby and all UKCC Level 1 candidates must have completed one of them.  It will also be a requirement for all coaches and teachers to attend the RugbyReady Practical Course, from the start of the 2010/11 season.

IRB RugbyReady Online Course
With an emphasis on safety, RugbyReady is an excellent online resource that you can register to use for free.  This course is now a minimum requirement for any coach or teacher in Scotland (at every level) and covers correct technique, physical preparation, injury prevention and injury management.

RugbyReady Practical
Coaching Only (3 Hours)
The RugbyReady Practical course aims to increase awareness of all aspects of safety in the game. This three-hour course enables you to coach contact rugby to anyone aged 12 and above. Candidates must be aged 16 or over.

Foundation Course
Coaching & Refereeing (6 Hours)
This course enables you to coach and referee mini rugby (P4 to P7), including contact and non-contact versions of the game such as TAG and New Image rugby. Candidates must be 16 or over. The course prepares coaches, teachers and parents to deliver game-based activities through which children can learn the basic skills and laws of rugby. It also incorporates all elements of the RugbyReady Practical course.
